History of BUSM

Chronology of Events

Date Milestone Event
Jun 1976 Spiritual Meditation Xian Sheng started to preach about GOD everywhere he went. He would take a hailer, find an empty plot of land and started to invite people to participate in Spiritual Meditation. The Spiritual Meditation allowed the masses to experience spiritual healing and for their soul to leave their body to visit the spiritual planes of Heaven and Hell. Xian Sheng hoped that people would be spiritually awaken to the existence of their own soul, the existence of Heaven and Hell and eventually to the existence of the CREATOR.
1976 Meditation Ground Initially Xian Sheng would find an empty field, set up his hailer, and invite people to come and meditate. Later on, majority of the spiritual meditation was conducted at the empty land next to the abandon Chiew Chee Long temple, Kepong.
Click here for subsequent meditation grounds.
1976 Urn Xian Sheng installed the first Urn that year. An urn signifies that the follower accepted Baitiangong. The Urn is used together with the joss stick and oil lamp for praying. The majority of those who converted to Baitiangong are mostly from the Buddhist or Taoist faith. They were unable to adapt to praying using only their pair of hands. The urn is the only compromise in Baitiangong.
4 Oct 1976 Baitiangong Prayer Xian Sheng received the Tian Gong Prayer. He started to use Tian Gong to address God and use the Tian Gong prayer instead of the Lord's Prayer and the Al-Fatiha.
17 Feb 1977 Chook Fook Conducted the first New Spiritual Year's Chook Fook on the eve of Chinese New Year. As Chook Fook to every Baitiangong family can last till late at night, Xian Sheng selected the eve of CNY for the convenience of the followers.

23 - 26 Nov 1977 Spiritual Retreat Conducted the first Spiritual Retreat. It was known as Spiritual Recluse and was held at Bukit Ari, Kepong. 37 followers participated. They fasted for 3 days and 3 nights as they climbed the hill and braved rains, cold and heat. The Song of the Prayer was revealed to them during meditation.

1978 Fasting Baitiangong followers fast for 24 hours without food and water for the first time. Subsequently, all followers were encouraged to fast on the 1st and 15th day of the Chinese lunar calendar. However, it is compulsory for all followers to fast for a minimum of 24 hours during our spiritual month of October when Xian Sheng received the Tian Gong Prayer. Some followers would fast for 72 hours to remember that when the Creator first created man, man did not know how to eat and drink for the first 72 hours.

1979 Blood Donation Xian Sheng led 43 Baitiangong followers for a blood donation drive at KL General Hospital. Xian Sheng wanted to change the mindset of the Chinese community not to be selfish by refusing to donate their blood to anyone. This event appeared in local daily. It is worth noting that starting from 1979, Malaysia begun to see large droves of Chinese people turning out for blood donation drives.
Jul 1981 - Start of the yearly blood donation campaign during the Ramadan month as the number of our Muslim’s brothers and sisters that donate blood is reduced during the fasting month.
1980 Fasting donation Started donation of RM3 every 24 hours, RM6 for 48 hours and RM9 for 72 hours fasted. 1981 Council of Elders and ACCs Xian Sheng drew up the Organisation Chart for the Baitiangong movement consisting of Button Holders, Council of Elders and Area Coordinating Counsellors (ACC). This organisation is named Tian Gong Baixian Holy Hall with its address at 4203, 4½ Mile, Salak South Baru, Kuala Lumpur. This organisation would help with the administrative affairs of followers in Kuala Lumpur, Klang, Petaling Jaya, Ipoh, Pahang, Semenyih and Singapore. The Principles of the Baitiangong movement are the six Spiritual Guidelines, the Five Realisations, the installation of the Urn, Spiritual Meditation, fasting, the way of marriage and the way of funeral/obsequies.
14 Apr 1982 Xian Sheng was appointed as the Assistant Registrar for Marriages with license no. 1391. Xian Sheng is now able to conduct the official registration and perform the Baitiangong way of Marriage together.
20 Jun 1982 Plaque Bro Tan An Bin was accepted as a follower with the installation of a plaque. The urn was a compromise by Xian Sheng to ease the transition, was discontinued after a period of 6 years. However, both the urn and the plaque are not the objects of prayers. The urn merely serves to hold the joss sticks after they are used to pray to the Creator. The plaque that hangs on their walls in their homes serves to shows others that they are Baitiangong followers.
12 Sep 1982 The female followers started to carry the coffin of their deceased fellow followers. Xian Sheng stressed that Baitiangong is a movement without any taboos and women must overcome their fear of dead people.
2 Oct 1982 Police Arrest The start of persecutions by the police. Police arrested 200 followers at our 6th anniversary at Tian Gong Baixian Holy Hall, Salak South, KL.
5 Oct 1982 Xian Sheng on the brink of death On the 3rd day of a 3-day fasting that started when he was in lockup, while addressing a group of followers from KL and Singapore, he fell into a frenzy and cried out, "No! No! Tian Gong, please do not take my hands away. I need my hands to heal the people." Xian Sheng was apparently overwhelmed with grief when he recounted the moment when the DBKL Land Rover repeatedly squashed the main arc under its tyres into the ground. Xian Sheng asked, "Don't they know the meaning of the word 'Tuhan' (which means Creator)?"
Xian Sheng was at the brink of earthly death, but Tian Gong allowed Xian Sheng to continue his ministry. Later on, Xian Sheng lamented, "I never believe that human beings are stupid. Today I admit I am wrong, human beings are really stupid." Back in 1976 before he began his ministry, while in a meditation, Xian Sheng met with Prophet Muhammad and Jesus. Both of them told him that human beings on this earthly plane are still as foolish and as stupid as they were back in their days respectively. Xian Sheng rebuked them and insist that human beings cannot be so as they are endowed with an intelligent mind. Five years later, he concurred with Prophet Muhammad and Jesus. If Xian Sheng did not admit to Tian Gong that he was wrong in believing human are not stupid, he would have returned to the Plane of Nothing. His benevolent love for us despite our inherent stupidity since the beginning of time gave us the opportunity to continue with his effort to save our own soul, our family, our relatives, our friends and strangers' soul as well.
12 Jul 1983 Festive Visit First festive visitation to PM, Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohammad Hari Raya Puasa open house.
In Baitiangong, Xian Sheng stressed that the movement do not celebrate the religious festivals of Christianity - Christmas, Buddhist - Wesak, Hindu - Deepavali and any other pagan festivals as the God(s) in these religious festivals are not the Creator. This does not mean that as individuals we are not allowed to visit our friends from different religious background. The visitation during Deepavali is not to celebrate the festival, but to visit our Indian Baitiangong follower.

Xian Sheng implemented silent meditation to curb all these undesirable activities as the main purpose of meditation is the 5 Realisations.
